Lady Gaga, One Direction among nominees for first annual YouTube Music ...

Lady Gaga's Applause, the first single from her upcoming album 'Artpop' is among the nominees for Video of the Year.


The music industry has its Grammys. MTV has its VMAs. But only the brand new YouTube Music Awards will honor things like the world's best parody videos created by fans. Or the star videos that inspired the most fan mimic clips.


YouTube just announced the nominees for its first annual awards, to be handed out Sunday November 3rd, during a live concert event in New York featuring Lady Gaga, Eminem, the Arcade Fire and more.


Prizes will be awarded in 6 categories, from Video of the Year to Response of the Year (based on fan-created clips uploaded to the service).


Major nominees include Eminem, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Psy, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and One Direction.


The live event - to be held on Pier 36 on Manhattan's West Side - will also feature Avicci, M.I.A., Earl Sweatshirt, Tyler the Creator, and Walk Off The Earth.


Actor/musician Jason Schwartzman and comedia/musician Reggie Watts will host the event, which will also be streamed over YouTube.


Nominations for the Awards have been drawn from YouTube data over the last 12 months based on views, likes, shares, comments and subscriptions.
