Lady Gaga chatted with "Today" anchor Savannah Guthrie Friday morning in New York City.

Lady Gaga has defended her choice to let vomit artist Millie Brown throw up on her during her South by Southwest Music Festival performance last week.

"I guess we weren't completely surprised. Millie and I know that not everybody's going to love that performance," the 27-year-old singer told "Today" anchor Savannah Guthrie Friday morning of the controversial moment .

"But we both really believe in artistic expression and strong identities," she continued.

"I support her and what she does. ARTPOP, my new album, is about bringing art and music together and the sprit of creative rebellion. For us, that performance was art in its purest form. But we totally understand that some people won't be into it."

"Did we want the controversy? I suppose it doesn't matter," the pop star said on the negative backlash that was thrown at her.

"Either way, we don't make things for any intention in particular other than in the spirit of entertaining the crowd and creating something that is really for the moment. It wasn't meant for the 'Today' show. It was meant for a club performance in Austin, and we had a great time."

Fellow singer Demi Lovato called out Gaga via Twitter suggesting the onstage incident was "glamourizing" eating disorders.

"Sad... As if we didn't have enough people glamorizing eat disorders already. Bottom line, it's not 'cool' or 'artsy' at all," she wrote on March 14.

Gaga, who donned a long white wig and an all-black ensemble, also teased her latest music video for her ballad "G.U.Y." during her "Today" appearance.

The full version of the video, which was shot at the Hearst Castle in San Simeon, Calif., will premiere on "Dateline" Saturday.
