Love her or hate her, Gaga's music videos and live performances were always shocking, edgy and packed a punch.

However, with the release of her latest one, pretentiously titled An ARTPOP Film Starring LADY GAGA, it's difficult not to think we've seen all this before.

While the video features nudity, blood and that ridiculous mouth grill last seen on the singer at the YouTube music awards earlier this month, the effect was nowhere near as shocking as Gaga wanted it to be.

However, this being Gaga, everything is a 'production' and the video kicks off with a sombre voiceover from the star as she explains what ARTPOP means to her.

'This album is a celebration. My pain exploding in electronic music, it's heavy but after I listen to it I feel happy again, I feel lighter,' she intones.

The short film begins with Gaga dressed in a tiny white outfit and mini veil as she walks toward the camera.

Lady Gaga is well known for her love of wigs and we are treated to a variety of colours, shapes and sizes in this video.

She later strips naked and makes a half-hearted effort to cover herself with a mackintosh, a suit jacket and later, and quite bizarrely, some strategically placed dirt.

One of the more ridiculous sights in the video is Gaga, wearing the mouth grill, made from teeth, which gives her face a freakish appearance.

She adds a low brim hat and dark wig as she walks toward the camera in a boxy jacket, a pair of panties and one over the knee boot, with the other falling below her ankle.

Blood splatters her legs and she looks like something from a B horror movie, walking with a sexy strut which is at odds with her macabre appearance.

The emotional singer sheds some tears in her video, with her mascara running down her face in one scene.

She writhes on the floor in just white panties and a bra, while wearing a blonde wig as the electro pop beat blares.

This new video comes just after Gaga's latest album ARTPOP scraped to number one in the US Billboard charts.

While she did reach the top spot, Gaga only sold 258,000 copies of the record, despite a massive marketing campaign.

According to Billboard, only three 2013 albums by women debuted with more than 150,000 sales. Katy Perry's Prism debuted with 286,000 sales, while Miley Cyrus' Bangerz sold 270,000.

However, there is some consolation as Forbes magazine recently named Lady Gaga as the second highest-paid musician of 2013, just behind Madonna.

Gaga came in second with a yearly income of $80 million.

The publication states that it 'took into account concert ticket sales, royalties for recorded music and publishing, merchandise sales, endorsement deals, and other business ventures.'

The Mother Monster took in $160 million from touring, which had to be cut short due to a hip injury.

Forbes states that if the singer/songwriter had been able to finish out her tour, she could have possibly pulled in $200 million.
