Gaga - born Stefani Germanotta - accessorised her silky menswear-inspired frock with bizarre, broken spectacles.

It was all a bit much considering that the singer was just arriving at rehearsals and not performing a sketch, and a bit of a let down after Sunday night's flying dress.

She made sure to pose for photographs with her Little Monsters before leaving her Midtown Manhattan hotel.

Mother Monster will host and serve musical guest duties for the November 16 episode, but it's unclear what she has in store for the late-night series.

Previously on SNL, she had a fake catfight with Madonna in 2009, and she sang with Justin Timberlake in a Lonely Island sketch in 2011.

Perhaps R&B legend R. Kelly will stop by to help Gaga perform her latest hit, Do What U Want.

On Sunday at midnight, the outlandish songstress performed a private concert dubbed artRave at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

She tweeted: 'The artRave blew my mind. The variable you can never predict is monsters. You made it all come alive, around the world!'

Gaga made a dramatic, high-tech entrance in a flying dressed called 'Volantis' that was basically a fancy dirigible.

Early reviews of the Born this Way singer's new album are pretty underwhelming.

'I'm at the age where you see blond hair and (breasts) and a (butt) and hear me singing about sex or fighting for gay rights, people start to roll their eyes,' Gaga told USA Today.

Later this month, the Machete Kills actress will perform on the American Music Awards and appear in a Muppets holiday special.
