Lady Gaga Caps SNL Appearance with Sketch About Future

While the back end of Saturday Night Live is often the resting place of sketches that weren't good enough to make it into the first hour of the show, host Lady Gaga finished this weekend's episode with a turn as Old Lady Gaga, circa 2068, that was sweet, tragicomic, and most of all, funny. Gaga's older self lures an unsuspecting building superintendent into her apartment to coax some recognition of her long-faded celebrity, tinkling out her hits on an old piano, but is rewarded only with kudos for her toilet jingle, and her association with "Empress Beyoncé."


The end of the sketch, a wistful rendition of Applause, is as close as SNL ever really gets to being poignant.
