Lady Gaga suggests Artpop album will be followed by sequel

Lady Gaga has indicated that she already has a sequel in mind for her forthcoming Artpop album. The singer has apparently started work on a follow-up, which is due on 11 November.

Gaga's secret plans emerged as part of her recent Twitter Q&A with fans. Asked whether she has begun work on "the album after Artpop", Mother Monster replied: "Yes, lots of songs for ACT TWO!"

Some observers even proposed that Gaga is plotting a trilogy: asked whether her new single, Venus, is a " continuation" of the 2010 hit Telephone, Gaga replied: "No ... TRILOGY ENDINGS TO COME!" But talk of Artpop Vol III seems premature - Gaga was almost certainly referring to part three of a music video series that began with Paparazzi, followed by a Beyoncé-featuring clip for Telephone.

Despite the purported death of the LP, two-part albums suddenly seem like a trend: Justin Timberlake's 20/20 Experience 2 is currently at No 8 in the UK charts, and Eminem's Marshall Mathers LP 2 is scheduled to drop next month. A double-volleyed Artpop even has a precedent within Lady Gaga's catalogue: her debut, 2008's The Fame, was followed in 2009 by an eight-track mini album called The Fame Monster.

Last year, Gaga claimed to have written "like 50 songs" for her new record. But this week she revealed she has finally "handed [Artpop] in". "Satisfied is maybe not the way to describe it. Very proud ... I made a happy album with a lot of energy to pick up my spirits and keep my adrenaline pumping."

Gaga's last album, Born This Way, spent three weeks at No 1.
